ABPI response to Life Sciences Innovative Manufacturing Fund announcement
The Office for Life Sciences has today announced the £60million Life Sciences Innovative Manufacturing Fund, designed to boost medical manufacturing in the UK, as well as £200million to support access to data for health research.
In response to the £60million Manufacturing Fund, ABPI Chief Executive Richard Torbett said:
“This announcement will strengthen our sector and help the government realise its Vision for Life Sciences. Such funding was called for by our members, who are keen to invest in the latest manufacturing technologies in the UK.
Investing in hi-tech, UK manufacturing has never been more important. We look forward to hearing more about how the Fund will work and continuing to work with Government to make a real difference to UK growth as well as resilience to future pandemics and climate change.”
In response to the £200million to support better access to NHS data for research, ABPI Executive Director of Strategy, Research and Partnerships Colette Goldrick said:
“This substantial investment in developing and building public confidence in the UK’s health data infrastructure is very welcome. Health data has been critical in the fight against COVID-19, and more people than ever before have seen the benefits that sharing information can bring in terms of researching and developing new treatments at unprecedented speed.
“We look forward to this funding, once confirmed, strengthening the UK’s health data assets to unlock a new generation of medical breakthroughs.”
