Scientists need to be kept up to date with scientific, medical and commercial views that will influence their work.

Research information professionals support research and development within pharmaceutical companies. They work closely with scientists, and also with clinical research, regulatory and commercial staff working in research and development.

They provide up to date information on scientific, medical and commercial topics that will influence the decisions scientists need to make. A scientist may request information on a specific topic, or the research information professional may distribute information they think will be useful.

People working in research information may also provide support and training for scientists on use of databases.
