ABPI response to new global pandemic preparedness partnership

A new pandemic preparedness partnership has been launched at the G7 Health Meeting to ensure the world is better protected against future pandemics.

It’s vital that we build on our strength in R&D and manufacturing if we are to meet the health challenges of the future, achieve the 100 Day Mission set out today and make the UK a life science superpower. Richard Torbett

Life science industry leaders have joined forces with G7 governments to step up in the fight against emerging global health threats, with a new commitment to partner on future pandemic preparedness.

In response, Richard Torbett, Chief Executive of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, said:

“The UK has played an important global role in tackling the pandemic, helping to bring life-saving treatments and vaccines to people around the world.

“It’s vital that we build on our strength in R&D and manufacturing if we are to meet the health challenges of the future, achieve the 100 Day Mission set out today and make the UK a life science superpower.”

The ABPI exists to make the UK the best place in the world to research, develop and use new medicines. We represent companies of all sizes who invest in discovering the medicines of the future.

Our members supply cutting edge treatments that improve and save the lives of millions of people. We work in partnership with Government and the NHS so patients can get new treatments faster and the NHS can plan how much it spends on medicines. Every day, we partner with organisations in the life sciences community and beyond to transform lives across the UK.
