ABPI response to new global partnership to fight future pandemics

Ahead of this summer's G7 summit, the UK government has launched a new Pandemic Preparedness Partnership (PPP) to advise the UK G7 Presidency on how to save lives from future diseases and prevent another global pandemic.

Collaboration is at the heart of the G7 and has been central to our collective response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Richard Torbett

In response, Richard Torbett, Chief Executive of the ABPI said:

“Collaboration is at the heart of the G7 and has been central to our collective response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Today’s Pandemic Preparedness Partnership demonstrates the shared commitment of the UK government and of the pharmaceutical industry to global leadership in public health and sends a strong signal ahead of this year’s summit that public-private collaboration is key to preventing and preparing for future health crises.”

The ABPI exists to make the UK the best place in the world to research, develop and use new medicines. We represent companies of all sizes who invest in discovering the medicines of the future.

Our members supply cutting edge treatments that improve and save the lives of millions of people. We work in partnership with Government and the NHS so patients can get new treatments faster and the NHS can plan how much it spends on medicines. Every day, we partner with organisations in the life sciences community and beyond to transform lives across the UK.
