A new report published today by the Medicines Manufacturing Industry Partnership (MMIP) has asked the Government for support in building four new Centres of Excellence for medicines manufacturing across the UK. The centres would provide high-skilled jobs and make the UK the first place in the world where new drugs can be discovered, made and packaged.

This has been a busy period for the Medicine Manufacturing Industry Partnership (MMIP). Key recent activity has focused on promotion of the Fiscal Guide and the upcoming webinar to highlight how companies can make the most of the UK’s fiscal environment. The Advanced Therapies Manufacturing Taskforce is entering its final stage with a push on activity to publish an action plan before the end of the year and work has been ongoing on promoting the work of the MMIP, the Technology Roadmap on innovative technologies and the Skills Action Plan.

Key recent activity has focused on new data on manufacturing output showing the largest rise since July 2012. The Advanced Therapies Manufacturing Taskforce has held its second meeting, with the final meeting taking place in November and we are delighted to announce that Dr Magda Papadaki has been appointed as the ABPI's new Head of Manufacturing Innovation, joining the MMIP operational team.
Manufacturing Vision for UK Pharma: Future proofing the UK through an aligned technology and innovation road map (22 August 2017)
The primary purpose of this road map is to set out recommendations on how to protect and grow the respected UK ‘Pharmaceutical Brand’ with a specific focus on Technology and Innovation (T&I). Historically, the UK has excelled at early innovation in medicines platform research and development, but has lost out to other countries for the final manufacture of these high value products.
