Top Awards For Innovative Pharmacists

Wednesday, March 26, 2008

Pharmacists operating innovative schemes to help patients can enter the successful and prestigious ABPI Pharmacy Award scheme, now entering its fourth year, the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) announced today.

Entries are being sought from pharmacists for one award for each of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. They will need to show:

  • Innovative practice that has improved the use of medicines.
  • Significant improvements in the quality of prescribing, dispensing or administration of medicines.
  • Service developments that ensure patient access to high quality care and medicines.

“Pharmacists’ work in providing front-line healthcare services and advice for patients is gradually receiving more recognition, and the ABPI is pleased to reinforce that process,” said Martin Anderson, ABPI Director of NHS Policy and Partnerships.

“The ABPI has been running the awards for three years, and the standard of work shown by previous winners has been innovative and inspiring. I’m confident we’ll get a similarly high standard of entries this year.”

Winners will be announced in August and will receive £500 to spend on activities which further professional development and enhance patient care. Entries can be received from any practising pharmacist.

The awards will be judged by a panel of senior NHS professionals and the ABPI. Applications, which must be received by July 13, can be obtained from the ABPI website, or from Martin Anderson, ABPI, 12 Whitehall, London SW1A 2DY.
