The commitment of six pharmacists and their teams from all corners of the UK to improve patient
care has been recognised in annual pharmacy awards sponsored by the Association of the British
Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI). Two winners each hailed from Wales, England and Scotland.
The ABPI awards – now in their third year – went to pharmacists who have shown:
- Innovative practice that has improved the use of medicines.
- Significant improvements in the quality of prescribing, dispensing or administering medicines.
- Service developments that ensure patient access to high-quality care and medicines.
“The winners of this year’s award reflect the efforts of pharmacy teams working
to improve patient experience responding to a range of very different challenges and healthcare
settings,” said Martin Anderson, Director of NHS Policy and Partnerships at the ABPI.
“The ABPI is delighted to continue to support innovative pharmaceutical practice.”
The recipients of the awards are: David Gill, Head of Pharmacy, Angus Community Health
Partnership; Alison Foster, Senior Pharmacist, NHS Ayrshire and Arran; Scott Pegler,
Medicines Information Pharmacist, Swansea NHS Trust; Sheila Brown, Prescribing Adviser,
Eastern and Coastal Kent PCT; Dr Paul Deslandes, Pharmacy Department, NHS Cardiff and
Vale; Linda Ferguson, Business Development Manager, Manor Pharmacy, Ilkeston.
The six prize-winners will receive free tickets for the whole of this year’s British
Pharmaceutical Conference at Manchester. The applicants were judged by panels of senior
NHS professionals and the ABPI.
The awards will be held again next year. Applications can be received from any
