The Deputy First Minister for Wales, Ieuan Wyn Jones, is the principal speaker at the Annual
Conference and Exhibition of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI),
to be held in Newport, Gwent on November 14-16.
Mr Jones, who is also Minister for Economy and Transport, will be speaking at the main conference
dinner on November 15 after a crowded programme of events during the day that includes workshops
on a wide range of topics and briefing sessions.
Other top speakers at the event include Professor John Williams, Wales Office of Research and
Development, Professor Julian Hopkin, head of Swansea University School of Medicine and Gareth
Edwards, ex-captain of the Welsh rugby team and former team member of the British Lions.
The conference is for senior pharmaceutical industry staff involved in a variety of areas, including
finance, legal affairs, marketing, research and development and regulatory affairs.
“The ABPI Conference has become a landmark event in the calendar of the UK-based pharmaceutical industry,”
said Dr Richard Barker, Director General of the ABPI. “With so many important topics on the agenda over the
three days of the conference, this will again be a ‘must-attend’ event for those involved in the industry.”
