Comments and suggestions are now invited on the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry’s
(ABPI) Code of Practice for the Pharmaceutical Industry. The next version of the Code will come into
operation on 1 July 2008.
As announced by the ABPI, the Code and its operation is being revised following the introduction of a
revised European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) Code covering interactions
between the pharmaceutical industry and health professionals and the publication of a new EFPIA Code covering
relationships between the pharmaceutical industry and patient organisations. All requirements in these codes
that are not already covered in the ABPI Code must be implemented into the 2008 version by 1 July.
Other comments and suggestions that do not conflict with UK law will also be considered as part of this review.
Additionally, suggestions for revisions that have been sent to the Prescription Medicines Code of Practice
Authority (PMCPA) since the last revision will be taken into account.
Heather Simmonds, Director of the PMCPA said:
“The Code and its operation are regularly revised every two to three years and suggestions for revisions
are always welcome. With a new Code coming into operation next year, anyone with comments or suggestions
should submit them for consideration as soon as possible.”
Anyone is welcome to send comments to by e-mail or by post to Heather
Simmonds, Director, PMCPA, 12 Whitehall, London SW1A 2DY. More information on the consultation can be found
on the PPRS website.
