The ABPI/DH Diabetes group is a group of pharmaceutical companies with an interest in diabetes, working together with the National Clinical Director for Diabetes and the Director of NHS Diabetes, on projects of mutual interest to ensure that patients receive high quality health care.
The group met on a number of occasions in 2010 to progress key projects, the most successful to date being an e-learning module to help up-skill clinicians in relation to the safe use of insulin. To date, many thousands of nurses have successfully completed this on-line course, which has already won an award. Monitoring of the project is on-going and further progress is expected in 2011.
Another project currently being scoped will look at the optimal use of non-insulin products. This will help to ensure that the very large number of diabetic patients who do not need to take insulin get the best outcomes from the medicines that they receive by bringing together skills and resources from a wide group of interested stakeholders.
