The ABPI has appointed Lisa Potter as its new Head of Media. Lisa will take up the position on 30 September and will lead the association’s media function.
Lisa will report directly to ABPI Director of Communications Catherine Meaden and will advise the Senior Leadership Team on media issues. She will play a pivotal role in developing and enhancing the profile of the pharmaceutical industry and the benefits it brings to the UK, through the creation of life changing medicines and as key driver of economic growth.
Lisa has worked in communications and media roles for over eight years and has been working in the health sector since 2009. She currently works for NHS Direct as Head of Communications and Insight, leading the organisation’ communications function and running the press office. During her time at NHS Direct she led the media response to Swine Flu, and managed the full range of communications activity associated with a significant change management programme, when NHS Direct decommissioned its 0845 46 47 telephone service. She was also instrumental in positioning NHS Direct as a ‘web-first’ organisation in the media.
Prior to NHS Direct, Lisa worked for the General Teaching Council where she oversaw their media response to the controversial Code of Conduct and Practice for Teachers and their programme of disciplinary hearings.
Sean Palmer has been appointed as Media Relations Officer. Prior to this he worked for Central and Northwest London NHS Foundation Trust as a communications officer and UK Specialist Hospitals in their communications and marketing function. Sean has also worked in the healthcare industry in Ireland.
Commenting, Lisa Potter Head of Media at the ABPI, said:
"I am delighted to be joining the ABPI at what is a very significant time for the pharmaceutical industry. A top priority for me will be to work closely with our members to develop a media campaign to enhance the reputation of the pharmaceutical industry. This will provide an opportunity to promote achievements and create a sense of excitement about future plans. I would also like to encourage mainstream conversations about the sector amongst patients, much like we see in the NHS."
Commenting, Catherine Meaden, Director of Communications at the ABPI, said:
“I am looking forward to working with Lisa to help get across the many positive stories we have as an industry."
