ABPI Chief Executive Stephen Whitehead said:
"The ABPI welcomes the move towards resolving the issues in the medicines supply chain.
"Patient wellbeing is the priority for all of us, and we are pleased that the need for action has been recognised. However, we do not think the recommendations of the APPG go far enough. Without the legal separation of pharmacy wholesaling and dispensing activities, industry is unable to prioritise pharmacists whose primary concern is UK patients, over those who are selling medicines abroad for a profit and causing the problems in the supply chain.
"The pharmaceutical industry will continue to work closely with pharmacists, wholesalers, and the Department of Health to help improve this situation."
