"Through appropriate relationships with professionals at the front line of patient care, we are able to advance the development and delivery of medicines. We are acutely aware that these relationships must be managed appropriately and transparently. This is why we are launching a searchable database detailing where pharmaceutical companies have worked with healthcare professionals and the transfer of value as part of that activity.
"Professional associations and Royal Colleges with whom we have engaged, support this level of increased transparency and we know that the NHS, through the development of the Sunshine Rule, is itself ensuring greater consistency of transparency. Working together we can create an appropriate environment of openness about these very important relationships that support medical innovation.
"Anyone who has any concerns regarding the conduct of pharmaceutical companies in the UK should contact the Prescription Medicines Code of Practice Authority (PMCPA) which administers the industry's Code of Practice."
