Catherine is the Communications Director at the ABPI and is responsible for leading the organisation’s engagement with government, media, patient groups and the wider healthcare community. She joined the ABPI in April 2012 as the Head of Policy and Public Affairs.
Before working at the ABPI she headed up Marketing and Communications at NHS Direct – the telephone and online health advice service. During her time at NHS Direct she led their communications response to the swine flu pandemic as well as increasing public awareness and usage of the service. Prior to NHS Direct, Catherine was Head of Public Affairs and Campaigning at Cancer Research UK where she led campaigns on updating the UK Cancer Plan and improving screening programmes for breast, bowel and cervical cancer. She has also worked for the NHS Confederation managing their government relations programme.
Catherine graduated from Leeds University in 1998 with a BA in Politics and Parliamentary Studies. Following graduation she spent five years working for Opinion Leader – a research consultancy specialising in qualitative research and public consultation on policy issues.
