Dr Bina Rawal is the Director of Medical, Innovation and Research and has responsibility for driving the agenda for innovation in the UK. Bina and her team work to improve the UK environment for the research, development and manufacturing of medicines, while supporting and optimising the UK’s science education and skills base, providing information on careers in our industry, and helping to optimise the UK regulatory environment.
The department also leads on promoting industry-academic-NHS collaboration and ensuring that the UK is a leader in stratified medicines, early and late stage clinical studies and in observational studies of Real World data.
Bina joined the ABPI in October 2012 from the Wellcome Trust where she was Head of Clinical Development within the research charity’s Technology Transfer Division. In this role, she was responsible for the oversight and governance of the division's clinical pipeline, derived from the funding of translational research, clinical validation work and the development of new products, including medicines, diagnostics and devices.
Prior to her time at the Wellcome Trust, she spent several years at Roche, including serving as therapeutic area expert in the UK. Bina also gained further experience in the pharmaceutical industry at GlaxoWellcome, where she worked in its R&D division.
