The pharmaceutical industry is one of the UK's most successful, providing top-quality employment, making high levels of balance of trade earnings, and developing world-beating modern medicines.  Scotland and the pharmaceutical industry together form a powerful combination, offering benefit for both the health and wealth of the nation.

The Staff at ABPI Cymru Wales participate in and monitor policy decisions that are likely to impact on the whole of the UK.

The ABPI Cymru Wales Industry Group (WIG) was formed in 2001 and is the voice and forum for the pharmaceutical industry in Wales. The ABPI Cymru Wales office supports the Group in this aim. Since its formation, WIG has been working in partnership with the National Assembly for Wales, NHS Wales and other key stakeholders, to help address the distinctive health needs of the people of Wales.

WIG currently has 32 member companies – having risen significantly in recent years to reflect the recognition within the industry of the growing importance and distinctiveness of the health agenda in Wales. Member companies include all the major global companies and smaller companies with a strong presence in Wales.

ABPI Northern Ireland (ABPI NI) was set up in 2007 as the voice of the pharmaceutical industry in Northern Ireland - a regional presence for the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, established in response to devolution and the changing political context.

ABPI NI represents the ABPI in addressing the distinctive health policy agenda in the region, where the specific health needs of the population are being tackled by a significant investment in health and social care by the Northern Ireland Executive.

The role of ABPI NI is to engender a greater understanding of the pharmaceutical industry in the region - to engage in dialogue with decision makers, health policy formers and healthcare providers. By enhancing communication and working effectively in partnership with stakeholders, we aim to improve the health and well-being of the people of Northern Ireland, and to encourage investment and employment opportunities.

ABPI NI is working to develop good relations with the Northern Ireland Executive and politicians from all parties in the Northern Ireland Assembly.

ABPI NI has already been recognised as a key stakeholder by the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS) Pharmaceutical Clinical Effectiveness Group and is working to evolve a process perceived and recognised by all as being fit for purpose, consistent, transparent, robust and undertaken with appropriate rigour.
