The ABPI opened an office in Edinburgh on the opening of the Scottish Parliament in 1999. The ABPI Scotland team works to represent the interests of our member companies to stakeholders here in Scotland. This ensures that bodies such as the Scottish Government and NHSScotland are kept informed about the issues affecting our sector.

We also work closely with member companies to support their relations, and ensure that they are supported in navigating the landscape of a devolved United Kingdom.

As part of this, the Scotland team supports the ABPI’s representatives on the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC), Patient Access Scheme Assessment Group (PASAG) and the Scottish Government’s Life Sciences Advisory Board (LiSAB), Innovation Partnership Board (IPB) and Strategic Engagement Group (SEG). We also provide the secretariat for the Scottish Parliament’s cross party group on life sciences.

As well as operating nine therapy-specific groups, we operate two main strategic work groups; the Scottish Access & Value Group (SAVG) and the Scottish Life Sciences Group (SLSG). These groups are open to all members to join.

The ABPI Scotland team strategy is based on the ABPI corporate strategy for the UK. It is the key document behind our actions and priorities; all of our team objectives are derived from it.

The overall ABPI strategy is approved by the Board of Management, and the Scottish strategy is subsequently approved by the Senior Leadership Team.
